Sexuality & Gender

All of you matters here.

Sexuality and gender are only parts to the whole of ourselves. These parts tend to be ones that people, experiences, and cultures can unduly place narratives or expectations that are not true to our most authentic self. When we give ourselves opportunity to live most authentically in these parts, we can find playfulness, pleasure, and peace.

Have you been able to be curious about your sexuality?

Sexual feelings and attractions can expand and change through one’s lifetime. Healing, confidence, and peace can come from exploring this part of yourself when met with kindness and non-judgement. If this is an area that is bringing you to therapy, you can expect my upmost gentleness when processing the curiosity around sexual attraction, thoughts, and desires.

There is no identity limitation to this process (age, relationship status, ethnicity, gender, religion, ability, status, race, etc.) - I support folks at all points of their life in this process. I am here to support you in creating a kind space for you to bring all of yourself - your fears and your hopes.

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.

Maybe:

Maybe you are starting to feel curious about your feelings of attraction and want someone to help you explore the parts of yourself with non-judgement and compassion. Maybe you are ready to come out as gay, lesbian, bi, queer, *, and you are ready to create the support for yourself in the process of inviting folks in. Wherever you find yourself or your relationship, having the support and space to process can help you heal, live confidently, and build resiliency.

I will support you in finding the language, expression, connection (with self and others), and freedom that you most desire when exploring your sexuality.

Have you been able to be curious about your gender?

Often folks are not given the support and space to be curious about their bodies - specifically expanding into their most authentic self. Gender is one way we can be curious, kind, and creative - I also recognize exploring gender can be a vulnerable and overwhelming process. This may be the first time you are allowing yourself to be open and curious or maybe you’ve had a lifetime of experience of getting to explore - wherever you find yourself, I want you to know that I support you in coming to your own answers, direction, and expansiveness.

Letting go of that idea that I needed to be normal or that I somehow wasn’t normal just because I needed to prioritize self-care to be healthy is the biggest gift I’ve ever given myself. Being normal is being completely unique, because nobody’s the same.
— Jonathan Van Ness
